The Passage of Time

I made this for the contest at called The Passage of Time. This seemed like a pretty neat contest, so I decided to enter! And I have to say, I'm pretty happy with the results...

As with all my artwork, it is nearly impossible to say what exactly inspired this piece. I was simply brainstorming ideas, contemplating the different stages of life, and BAM! The idea for this bizarre clock came out of nowhere! If I had to guess, I was probably subconsciously inspired by those clocks that you can put your own pictures in, but to be honest, even I don't know where the idea came from! But hey, who cares as long as the result is half-descent?

If you think about it, the stages of life are quite distinct. At least for a woman, a typical life path is baby, toddler, child, tween, teen, marriage, pregnant, kids, workaholic, grandma, and finally, great grandma. By replacing the numbers on the clock with the stages of life, I attempted to represent how time controls everything, and is impossible to slow or manipulate. It isn't meant to be a sad, depressing piece, but rather one that will make people appreciate the beauty and power of time, as odd as that may sound.
